Tears in Heaven
Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven Will it be the same If I saw you in heaven I must be strong, and carry on Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand If I saw you in heaven Would you help me stand If I saw you in heaven I'll find my way, through night and day Cause I know I just can't stay Here in heaven
Time can bring you down Time can bend your knee Time can break your heart Have you begging please Begging please
Beyond the door There's peace I'm sure. And I know there'll be no more... Tears in heaven
Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven Will it be the same If I saw you in heaven I must be strong, and carry on Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven
Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven
(Eric Clapton)

I heard this song on my way to work this morning. I know that this song is for Eric Clapton's deceased son, and I've known the lyrics way before, but could never pinpoint where the exact phrase 'Tears in Heaven' figured in the song. Well, this morning I finally discovered where it was. And I couldn't help but feel sad upon realizing what the phrase meant. It shows that you are letting go of this person because this person is going to a place where he/she will no longer suffer and where he/she will be happy. Unfortunately, it is a place where you can't go - at least not yet. And it really sucks. Much as you would like to preserve your happiness by keeping the person with you, you have to face reality, not be selfish and put this person's happiness before yours. So you let him/her go.
It still hurts, even after all the years that have passed. But somehow, knowing that 'there'll be no more tears in heaven' makes all the pain worth it.
