| Update |
Ayan, I finally got through last night's class! But I didn't go to the Php 350 class (Peak Performance in QC). Kasi when I confirmed my attendance with the instructor, she said wala silang class this week. Kakatapos lang ng recital so they were taking a week long break, next week pa sila magreresume. huhu. At first nawindang ako kasi I was so set on doing something yesterday, tapos hindi matutuloy. So I frantically searched for alternative studios, and fortunately, I came upon a page which took me to a directory of dance studios in Manila. I love you Click the City! And yung website kung san ko tong link na to. hehe
So I ended up going to Studio 116, which is in Makati. It was good because it was near my office, and the class starts at 7.30 pm so I have plenty of time to get there, kahit lakarin ko pa. The catch: the walk in rate is Php 500. I debated with myself if I was really going to spend that much for a trial session, when I can wait for the weekend or next Wednesday to go to the QC studios, which are much cheaper. But I was starting to get frustrated because I've been planning this since... Tuesday (hehe) and maiinis talaga ako kung hindi matuloy. So I went there na rin. I mean I'm going to try several studios din naman before I settle on one so I might as well start now. wheeee!
So I got there, not late, thank God. Mejo hinanap ko pa kasi yung place. I registered and paid and then waited a while for the previous class to finish. While I was paying, I was asked to fill up a form, which looked like an enrolment to a minimum 4-session workshop. So I clarified to the guy who was assisting me that I was only there as a walk in and will be trying only one session. Then he said 'AH, ms. tami? kayo pala yan.' Turned out I spoke with him earlier when I was inquiring about the rates. Hmmm. Three stars for good customer service!
Then tinawag na kami sa loob. Konti lang kaming participants, there were only 8 of us, which is good kasi hindi cramped yung space and mas madali magfocus kasi konti lang ang distraction. Yun, then the class started. All of a sudden the terms 'AND count' and 'first four eights' that I've been reading these past few days made sense. The AND count is another way to count steps, when the rhythm or beat of a song can't be divided by eight. The conventional way is of course: one-two-three-four.. up to eight. On the other hand, the AND count goes like: one-two-AND-three-AND-four. In effect sinisingitan lang ng AND ang counting to accommodate extra beats. Yun namang 'first four eights' means ang ituturo sa class is the first four eight-step combinations. Ayos, I still remember! =D
Anyway, so we did warm ups first, then tinuro yung steps. The instructor, a member of the Manuevers (although I don't know him kasi I don't watch them a lot) would make up the steps as we went along. Then cool down. The warm up and cool down consisted mostly of stretching and rotating movements to increase the body's flexibility.
Maganda yung steps, and maganda yung music. But still, I was a little disappointed after the class, I'm not sure if with the instructor kasi ang bilis niya magturo or with myself kasi mabagal talaga ako makagets ng step, as in I need to break it down per movement, then take about five-ten minutes to absorb and internalize. That's with the counting palang. Pag hinaluan ng music, another ten minutes to get the rhythm. toink. Ganyan ka-OC ang utak ko. dance step lang, hinihimay pa at kailangan perfect ang execution, di ko tuloy lalo ma-perfect. Wala pa ako niyang grace or 'attitude' sa lagay na yan ha, I'm just doing the steps mechanically. E yung mga kasama ko, yung iba naglelesson na before or dancer na talaga. I wasn't as embarassed as I was frustrated for not being able to follow quickly. To be honest, I don't think my 500 was sulit at all. I think its too much to pay for learning only four combinations, which if you do is equivalent to only less than a minute of a song, tapos hindi ko pa magawa flawlessly. *BITTER ALERT!*
Well, I am a beginner nga naman, so bakit ba ako reklamo ng reklamo? hehe. But all of a sudden, yesterday, I missed Fitness First, BodyJam and the Nike Rockstar workout. I pay 2.5 K a month for unlimited access to all the group exercises (not just the two above), machines, sauna, steam room, tapos mas nagegets ko pa ang steps sa BodyJam than sa totoong dance studio. big WAH. I am considering unfreezing my account at Fitness tuloy, kaso pag activated naman ang Fitness ko, e saka ako tinatamad mag-gym. So I'll leave it be muna.
But reklamo aside, hindi ko pa sinusukuan ang hiphop beat ko! No, no, no! Napagtanto ko na sadyang mabagal lang talaga ako maka-pick up kaya ako nahihirapan, and that I'll just have to get used to it. I also still need to try out at least two other studios to see kung saan ako 'hiyang'. I'm looking forward to next week, when I'll try Peak Performance and also Powerdance with a few friends, yay! By the way, Powerdance's walk in rate is only Php 400 on Saturdays and Sundays, and this gives you access to all the classes on that day from 3-9 pm: ballet, breakdance, jazz 1, hiphop, ballroom, jazz 2. So its in effect only Php 70 per class. Mas sulit pa sa Globe Sulitxt! |
