| The Holiday |
I have my own version of the Holiday - but there were no one night stands, no hanging out in an apartment with a new friend, no guy, no nothing, no one. Because here am I on a proclaimed special non-working holiday (or whatever today is called) working - alone - in the office with no one in sight except empty monitors and a witch behind me. Well, my officemate was here earlier so I wasn't so lonely, but now that she's gone home... well I want to go home too! But stubborn me, I need to finish something so tomorrow will be a brighter day. Pero magkukwento muna akew. Grabe ang weekend ko - jampacked na naman.
FRIDAY Met my friend for a late dinner and was joined by another friend later that night. Got home around 1.30 am.
Highlight of the evening: alimango moments.
SATURDAY - Chevron for the day Woke up at 6.45 (buzzer beater!) because I was going to go with my sister whose company was doing some tree-planting volunteer work in Pasig River. We were supposed to leave the house at 7 am. In fairview, nakaligo naman ako at nakabihis by 7 am. Kaso 7 am became 7.45 (kasi late yung officemate niya); Pasig river became a small backyard of PUP; and tree planting became picking up of rubble (aka any stone bigger than gravel; segregating of trash; removing weeds etc.) Hindi naman sa nagrereklamo ako; I guess it just wasn't what I expected. Anyway I enjoyed the experience, which turned out to be Servathon 2007, a project of Hands on Manila, which I'm planning to join as a regular volunteer soon.
There were about 15-18 Chevron people (including me and one person's 10 year old nephew - Carlo 'Cuycoy' na walang kasing bibo). For this year's Servathon, HOM got about 20 volunteer companies and deployed those in different areas where they are assigned to different tasks. Chevron was assigned to cleaning up a certain area of PUP. We only worked for two hours (me focusing on getting the 'rubble') and thankfully it wasn't too hot that day, but I was sweating like a fully-fed pig on a humid afternoon 10 minutes into the work. We wore gloves, na buti na lang din because as I unearthed those stones, I also uncovered a variety of worms, cockroaches, ants and bugs. We were helped by some volunteers from HOM, and also by PUP scholars. If I understood it correctly, some of the companies who joined Servathon acted as volunteers, while some were volunteer/partners (i.e. sponsor) and paid cash amounts. In Chevron's case, whatever amount they paid will go to the schooling of several President's Listers in PUP. After that, we proceeded to Rockwell for lunch, and also to meet the other companies that joined Servathon - Accenture, HSBC, BPI, Central Azucarera, RCBC Savings Bank, Globe, EON, Cibo, to mention a few. We didn't realize that it was such a big gathering (and that I should always have a stock of resumes handy) until we entered the tent - there must have been about 350 people in there! Food was catered by Cibo - which is masarap naman, kaso sa dami ng tao, we had to line up for about 30 minutes, as food continually ran out and had to be refilled. Entertainment was provided by I forgot who - but he plays the sax to different tunes, the most patok of which was the Sesame Street and Mario Brothers theme song.
We left Rockwell at around 2 pm, dropped by Katipunan to pick up the car and because my sister had an 'armpit errand' and then proceeded to Shopwise Antipolo to do our weekly grocery. We got there at 4.30 pm and we were dead beat. On the MRT ride home, I could hardly even reach the handrails overhead because the back of my pecs (or shoulderblades ba ang tawag dun) hurt so much. Pano naman nag gym overload din kasi ako Thursday night tapos nagbuhat uli ako Sat with little rest. We tried to finish the grocery quickly but I guess our best wasn't good enough. We finally left Shopwise at 6.30 pm and got home a little before 7 pm.
When I got home, I asked my sister (and my sabit brothers) if they wanted to go on a movie date. Kasi papampam yun e. There are times when she would ask me and I'm not available so I thought I'd take the initiative this time. Since I have walks on Sunday as well, and she was going to school, I thought the only time we had was Saturday night. Sooo.. eventually we agreed to watching The Rendition on a last full show on Saturday night. The movie will start at 9.50 pm, so I thought I'd sleep a bit after the grocery. BUT I also had cookie orders, which I won't have time to do on Sunday and Monday, because of the walks and overtime. Sooo.. I baked pa rin after grocery and didn't have time to rest anymore before the movie, na muntik ko nang makatulugan. Got home at 12.30 am and went straight to bed.
Highlight of the day: Picking up rubbles.
SUNDAY - Pamasahe lang ang puhunan Woke up at almost 11 am sa sobrang pagod, and rushed off to meet a couple of friends at the Edsa Shangri-la Mall, where we were going to watch Cineuropa films. We were able to watch two successive films: Summer with Ghosts at 12.00 noon and Dead Man's Hand at 2.00 pm. (These two movies weren't as great as the first Cineuropa film we watched last year - Simon - but di hamak mas maganda naman ang Summer with Ghosts than Dead Man's Hand.)
Dahil late ako umalis ng bahay, I was 10 minutes late for the first movie. I almost gave up na nga because I didn't have a ticket yet, and normally, the tickets run out about 30 mins before the film starts. Another issue is I don't know if they will still let me in once the movie has started. Luckily, there were still extra tickets so nakapasok pa ako, kahit late na. And the ticket attendant even gave me another ticket for the 2 pm show! After the movie my friends immediately went straight to the ticket booth to get tickets for the 2 pm showing as well (oo jologs kami!!!) then we went to have lunch. We only had about 20 minutes before the next movie so we ordered really quick at Tokyo Tokyo. Ba namang order kong yun, e 1.57 pm ko na ata nakuha! I was getting impatient already kasi patapos na kumain yung friend ko tapos order ko wala pa, and andami nang orders na umakyat, yung sa kin wala pa. So I had to go down to the counter and literally follow up every 20 seconds until I got my order. I used all the tricks in the book - guilt tripped them; threatened to cancel my order - ay dalawang tricks lang pala yun. yun pala may yakisoba kasi yung inorder ko at niluluto pa. E di sana they informed me na kulang and ni- to follow na lang diba! tuloy I had to wolf everything down in 5 minutes, tapos nalate tuloy kami sa 2 pm movie and had to sit separately.
Bad trip pa yung katabi ko text ng text the whole movie! Bukod sa nadidistract ako sa ilaw ng cell phone niya, e maingay rin ang keypad niya. Grabe, libre na nga yung movie e hindi pa ni-maximize! A few years ago, I learned not to mind my phone much during movies - hindi dahil sa nakukunsenya ako sa mga turn off your cellphone short stories - kundi dahil napikon yung isa kong friend (you know who you are! =P ) dahil minsan na nga lang kami makanood ng sine noon, tapos may kausap pa akong iba. =P Anyway umalis din eventually yung katabi ko and left us in peace - 15 minutes before the movie ended. After that we went around Shangri-la lang and found several coke booths where they distributed free tastes of Coke Light. Kahit hindi ako mahilig sa coke light, we got 1 cup each and drank to our hearts delight. Pantawid gutom. hehe Solb talaga ang araw na yun, sana pala nagbaon na lang ako nung binake kong cookies kesa nagTokyo Tokyo kami. hmp!
Then I got home around 6.30 pm... and baked until 1 am. toink! Buti na lang our two helpers - Hilda and Liza (pronounced as 'lie'-'za' na hirap na hirap akong sabihin) have taken up interest in baking too, so these last two weeks, they, expecially Liza, have been helping me bake. Hindi ko nga alam if I should give them some extra cash for helping me out, or if I'll just give them free cookies, although di naman ako nagpapabayad sa housemates noh! so... di ko pa rin alam what I'll give them in return.
Highlight of the day: Cineuropa of course!
MONDAY - The Holiday So here I am. On a proclaimed special non-working holiday (or whatever today is called) working - alone - in the office with no one in sight except empty monitors and a witch behind me. Naks! pwede na ba ako gumawa ng movie plot??? In fairness, the peace and quiet is quite relaxing. Well I better get back to work now and take advantage of this peace. May balak pa akong mag gym and/or mag cineuropa afterwards. haha curacha in the making e noh!
Highlight of the day: umm... buti na lang hindi pa tapos ang day. =) |
